Description: Foreign material can be any engine builder's worst nightmare. I demonstrate how to clean and prepare a bare cast iron engine block for assembly. This is actually GSX Block Prep 5. Can you believe it? I'm still taking it apart... Good grief! This block's been through a lot. It's been hot tanked. It's been machined and punched out for the 7-bolt GSX's old pistons. 9:1 JE's. Nothing wrong with 'em. It's had 2 crankshafts in it before it ever even been built or started. It was fitted for a bearing girdle. I test fit and modified everything necessary to bolt it into a 1995 GSX. I performed oil system modifications. I sanded the entire inside of the crankcase smooth. It was powder coated. It was Glyptal coated. It was baked again in a powder coating oven to cure the Glyptal. It sat for years. Now here we are. Those other things were in videos, too. I just didn't name them accordingly. They're in the GSX playlist. 4 was the Glyptal bake - youtu.be/T_5zivxyUIk 3 was the Glyptal application - youtu.be/hw-4Lx353Fs 2 was the test fitting of all the 1gina2g parts 1 was the oil gallery mods and preparations for coatings. The GSX is actually the main focus of my channel. Not Glyptal, not the Elantra... Not even the Colt. It's my first DSM love. There are 45 whole Elantra videos. There are over 110 GSX videos. The majority of my videos are actually about the GSX. You've just been drowning in Hyundai videos for the last 4 years. I would apologize except I hope you agree with me when I say I think it was worth it! I think there is value in demonstrating the worst-case scenario techniques on a more problematic stock-parts 6-bolt build. Not only am I happy with how the Elantra turned out, and happy to demonstrate how well those tricks worked, I'm happy I'm better equipped to bring this GSX series back to life in 4K now. This is not your daily commuter build. The car is not used the way most people's cars get used. If you're wondering what Glyptal is or why my block is red, I have a series of videos on the topic where I encourage you not to do this. I also demonstrated an alternative method on the Hyundai where you can sand and polish the inside of the block smooth for a very similar oil drainage effect. Of course it doesn't offer the oil quality benefits that Glyptal can, but it beats having to bake it, or wear constrictive hazmat gear, or limiting how you can use it and what fuels you can burn in it. Please refer to those videos to answer questions about that coating, and if you have questions about it, please post them there where they're on-topic and might benefit other viewers/readers. Glyptal Head application - youtu.be/77CKFnRHA3c Glyptal Block application - youtu.be/hw-4Lx353Fs Glyptal Testing with automotive fluids - youtu.be/On7gpYUaIpc Glyptal Baking Procedure - youtu.be/T_5zivxyUIk I am not endorsing or marketing for Glyptal, Inc. I'm simply using their product in a way that they don't recommend, and I've always admitted this. Don't try this at home. 0 hp modification. If you've figured out that it can help you, then you have very specific problems that few other people have, and/or are slightly retentive. I barely have those problems so I'll have to admit I must be both. Some people use WD-40 after washing an engine. You can do that. It's great to dry an engine with. It's a hydroscopic lubricant. Look that up. You should still re-oil it with something else like ATF or motor oil if it's going to sit... or do what I do. Leave it filthy full of broken glass, bugs and BB's for 6 years under your workbench until you're ready to work on it. Not only did that happen to this block. It's been to a machine shop and 2 different powder coaters over the last 4 years since. You'll get to see in this video how I deal with cast iron parts that sit. If you wish to support my production, I spend all proceeds from Patreon on these cars' builds and this channel's production gear. All of it. The more ridiculous that gets, the more ridiculous the builds get. If you wish to help bring entertainment to the gearhead demographic, please check out my Patreon page at patreon.com/jafromobile for inside information and additional content. Contributions are set up per-upload so it costs you nothing if I don't produce.
